The Realejo is Granada's old Jewish quarter, today the neighbourhood where people eat well out of habit, not fashion. We write this guide from the place where we cook: Paprika Realejo, on Plaza de Fortuny.
Not the centre. Something better.
The Realejo is five minutes from Plaza Nueva and ten from the Alhambra. That closeness makes it convenient. What makes it special is something else: here the kitchens breathe without hurry. Restaurants know their suppliers, waiters remember their guests and prices are not inflated by a view.
If you come to Granada and want to eat well without the tourist traps, the Realejo is the answer: chef-driven bistros, slow grills, honest tapas and small wines, all within a five-minute walk.
Four ways to eat in the Realejo
Chef-driven bistro
Creative cooking with Granada produce and the grill signing every dish. It is what we do at Paprika: the grill, the udon, the torrija and many small victories.
Tapas done properly
Granada is the last city where a tapa arrives with your drink without asking. In the Realejo that custom is respected and treated with technique: croquettes, hummus, preserves. Small things done well.
Real vegan cooking
The neighbourhood takes plant-based cooking seriously. At Paprika the udon, the hummus and the vegetable tacos are headliners, not filler.
Long sobremesas
In the Realejo nobody leaves the table straight away. The sobremesa is part of the meal: order another wine, order the torrija.

The Jewish quarter
Until 1492 the Realejo was Granada's Jewish quarter. It keeps its cobbled streets, small squares and a mix of bohemia and old money.
Next to the Alhambra
The Cuesta del Realejo takes you up to Spain's most visited monument in ten minutes. That is why it is the favourite neighbourhood of anyone who wants to rest near the visit.
Alive at night
The bars and restaurants of the Realejo fill up with locals, especially on weekdays. At weekends it is wise to book.
On the way to the Albaicín
Walk down to the Darro, cross the river and in fifteen minutes you reach the Albaicín, Granada's other historic quarter.

- El Realejo packs tapas bars, author cooking and bistros into a five-minute walking radius. Paprika Realejo is at Plaza de Fortuny 1: a creative, international bistro with a grill, produce from the Granada Vega and vegetarian and vegan dishes marked on the menu.
- How do you get to El Realejo and where can you park?
- It is a five-minute walk from Plaza Nueva and ten from the Alhambra. Bus lines C32, the one going up to the Alhambra, and C30 stop about 200 metres away. The San Agustín and Puerta Real public car parks are around eight minutes on foot.
- What time does the kitchen open in El Realejo?
- Our kitchen serves from 13:00 to 16:00 and from 20:00 to 23:00 Monday to Thursday, until 16:30 at lunchtime on Thursdays from 13:00 to 23:30 non-stop on Friday and Saturday, and from 13:00 to 17:00 on Sunday. The bar opens earlier, at 12:00, and closes at 01:00 from Monday to Saturday.
- Is there a terrace to eat outside in El Realejo?
- Yes. Our terrace is on Plaza de Fortuny, a small pedestrian square with no traffic, ideal for a quiet dinner. Subject to season and availability.
- Are there vegetarian and vegan options in the neighbourhood?
- Yes. Paprika Realejo is not a vegetarian restaurant, but the menu states dish by dish which ones are vegetarian and which are vegan, along with their allergens, so nobody has to ask to choose.
